{"id":25635,"date":"2021-04-05T11:41:23","date_gmt":"2021-04-05T09:41:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/decidesoluciones.es\/resolution-of-the-feb-2021-challenge-benchmark-medical-services\/"},"modified":"2021-04-05T11:58:47","modified_gmt":"2021-04-05T09:58:47","slug":"resolution-of-the-feb-2021-challenge-benchmark-medical-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/decidesoluciones.es\/en\/resolution-of-the-feb-2021-challenge-benchmark-medical-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Resolution of the Feb-2021 Challenge &#8211; Benchmark \u201cMedical Services\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Challenge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Every few months, <a href=\"https:\/\/dmcommunity.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DECISION MANAGEMENT COMMUNITY<\/a> proposes <strong>challenges on Decision Management<\/strong> that are posted on their website, in which anyone can participate and submit their solution using any decision management and business rules system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The challenge for February 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/dmcommunity.org\/challenge\/challenge-feb-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Benchmark &#8220;Medical Services&#8221;<\/a>, consists of implementing a <strong>decision service capable of assigning the coverage of a contracted medical service<\/strong>. At dedide4AI, our colleagues Azahara Talavera, Thomas Follon, Lorena Roa and Facundo L\u00f3pez have been in charge. Let&#8217;s learn more about the challenge and the proposed solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We are given the JSON format that the input and output must have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/decidesoluciones.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25603\" width=\"657\" height=\"256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/decidesoluciones.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-3.png 876w, https:\/\/decidesoluciones.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-3-300x117.png 300w, https:\/\/decidesoluciones.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-3-768x299.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 657px) 100vw, 657px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>They also give us the 16,369 rules to implement in the service and which assign coverage based on the contracted medical service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The objective of this challenge is to compare the performance of the different implementations and platforms on which the service is developed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Solution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To respond to this challenge, we have implemented a decision service using <strong>IBM&#8217;s Business Rules Management System (BRMS)<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/products\/operational-decision-manager\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ODM Operational Decision Manager<\/a> V8.10.0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In the implemented decision service, we have defined all the rules provided by the challenge, organizing them in a way that makes it easy for the business user to identify and understand the structure of the service, which will allow him to modify the business rules in an agile way.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The following is a brief description of our solution and the business artifacts of which our decision service is composed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Operation, artifacts and flow<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>First, we create an operation in which we define the input and output parameters. In each of the RuleTask we have created the business rules according to the functionality of each group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. RuleTasks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The first ruleTask (&#8216;Validate Not Informed&#8217;) is responsible for verifying that all the information needed to determine the medical service is informed.\n<\/li><li>The second ruleTask (&#8216;Classify Service&#8217;) is responsible for executing the eligible rules based on the input conditions, assigning output values accordingly.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. \u2018Validate Not Informed\u2019<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This ruleTask consists of a folder (Validate Not Informed) in which there are two data checking rules inside:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/decidesoluciones.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/4-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25609\" width=\"357\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/decidesoluciones.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/4-1.png 476w, https:\/\/decidesoluciones.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/4-1-300x158.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 357px) 100vw, 357px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Group Size &#8211; Note that each row of the table corresponds to one of the decision rules provided by the challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/decidesoluciones.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/13.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25628\" width=\"567\" height=\"306\" srcset=\"https:\/\/decidesoluciones.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/13.png 567w, https:\/\/decidesoluciones.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/13-300x162.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 567px) 100vw, 567px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The rest of the conditions are checked, and if they are met, each of the output variables is assigned the corresponding value in each case.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision service is exposed as an HTDS (REST) service, so that it can respond to calls in json format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Result and conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding the objective of the challenge (performance) the given test battery consisting of 10 cases has been executed in 214 ms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We have chosen IBM&#8217;s Operational Decision Manager to respond to the challenge because it is an agile tool that allows us to manage decisions and change business rules in a clear and fast way.
