As every year, the leading technology companies have made their predictions for 2020 on new technologies. According to Gartner in its annual report “Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2020”, top technology predictions for 2020 will be: Hyperautomation, Multiexperience, Technology Democratization, Human Augmentation, Data Transparency and Traceability, Empowered Edge, Distributed Cloud, Autonomous Things, Practical Blockchain and AI Security.
According to Forrester 2020 Predictions, new Cloud Computing alliances will be created and new security concerns will appear. In addition, the company predicts that “CIOs will automate 10% of their IT tasks and look to upskill everyone”, “Advanced firms will double their data strategy budget”, and “Privacy class-action lawsuits will increase by 300%”.
Hyperautomation
Gartner analysts describe this concept as the result of “the combination of machine learning, packaging software and automation tools to bring agility to work processes”. Robotic Processes Automation (RPA), is not equivalent to hyperautomatization, because it requires a combination of tools.
Multiexperience
At this point, Gartner talks about the change in the user experience (how users see the digital world and how they interact with it) until 2028. Virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality are transforming the way people perceive the digital world and creating a multisensory, multimodal experience.
Democratization
The democratization of data and data analysis, the democratization of development (with the rise of artificial intelligence tools to take advantage of tailor-made applications), the democratization of design and the democratization of knowledge (access to technical tools and systems by non-technical users).
Human Augmentation
Technology can improve human capabilities, for example through the deployment of chips or devices that enhance physical functionality. Cognitive skills can also be improved through enhanced access to information.
Transparency and Traceability
Transparency and traceability of attitudes, actions, technologies and practices, to tackle regulatory requirements, preserve an ethical approach to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and other advanced technologies. Consumers are increasingly realizing the value of their personal information and demanding control over how organizations manage and use this data.
Empowered Edge
According to Gartner, edge computing will become a dominant factor in all industries and use cases. Complex edge devices (including robots, drones, autonomous vehicles and operating systems) will accelerate this change.
Distributed Cloud
Distributed cloud is the distribution of public services in the cloud across different locations. The public cloud provider of origin assumes responsibility for the operation, governance, updates, and evolution of services. This represents a great change into a new era of cloud computing.
Autonomous Things
Robots, drones, autonomous vehicles and other devices based on artificial intelligence can do tasks previously limited to humans. According to Gartner, as technological capacity improves, regulation allows, and social acceptance grows, autonomous things will increasingly apply in uncontrolled public spaces.
Practical Blockchain
According to Gartner, Blockchain could remodel entire industries and improve the trust and transparency of business ecosystems, while reducing costs and optimizing cash flow. It can be used in areas such as asset tracking or identity management.
AI Security
Gartner expects attacks to increase with the rise of IoT, cloud computing, microservices and highly connected systems in intelligent spaces. For this reason, the company recommends to security managers to take advantage of Artificial Intelligence to improve the defense of security and to anticipate the use that can be made of it by attackers.
