This year we had the honour of participating in the EURO PhD School on Data Driven Decision Making and Optimization, the benchmark doctoral training event on data-driven decision making. This edition was held from 13 to 22 June 2022 at the University of Seville and brought together students, companies, research centres and public bodies around training and practical cases of this increasingly valued professional specialization.
During the ‘EURO PhD School on Data-Driven Decision Making and Optimization’, lectures and computer workshops with a methodological and applied component on the role of mathematical optimisation in data science were held. The lectures have highlighted the mathematical and statistical modelling and numerical optimisation behind data analysis and visualisation tools, and the computer workshops have allowed the PhD students to apply this knowledge.
At decide4AI, as a company specialising in Mathematical Optimisation and Operations Research, we have had the opportunity to share our perspectives and talk about some of the challenges we face in optimisation projects. Daniel Herrero, our Director of the Mathematical Optimization and Machine Learning area and Javier León, one of our business consultants and PhD in Mathematics, gave a talk on ‘Decomposition approaches for solving large optimization problems’.
Thanks to the event organisers and the organisations supporting the school: The Association of European Operational Research Societies, the Spanish Society of Operational Research, the Spanish Mathematics-Industry Network, the European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry, the Copenhagen Business School, the University of Seville, the European Commission, the Junta de Andalucía and the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
Special thanks to Emilio Carrizosa and Dolores Romero Morales for their treatment and facilities at all times. We are delighted to be able to be part of this scientific community and help the future of the sector.
